When you're buying your pet’s food from the pet store, you probably don't think much about it. You would automatically assume that if it is made for your pet, it is OK for them to eat. Have you ever read the food label of your pet's food and were left questioning some of the ingredients? If you did, here is what you are missing out on.

When the list of ingredients consists of "by-products" such as chicken by-products, your pet is eating what you cannot. By-products are parts of other animals that are not actually considered meat and are ripped off the animal after all the good meat has been taken off. For example, if your pet's food consists of chicken by-products, what the food label is really saying is your pet's food may consist of a chicken’s head, feet, lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, liver, and anything else that is not proper for human consumption.

It is not just these by-products that are filling your pet’s bowl. It could also be road kill, zoo animals, or livestock. The animals that are put into your pet's food may have been disabled, dying, diseased, or already dead; and yes this can consist of other dogs and animals.

Whatever chemicals or disease that may have been in these rejected animals may have made their way to your pet’s food, which of course ends up in your pet’s stomach. Chemicals that may have been used to euthanize zoo animals, dogs, and cats can survive through the making of the food, eventually ending up in your pet’s food. In the end, the poisons that are used to put pets down are the same ones that are being fed to them through their food. Other fillers of pet food include cheap grains and poorly supervised vitamins and minerals. These vitamins for pets, minerals, grains, and vegetables that may be in your pet's food may have also been sprayed with herbicides, pesticides, and insecticides.

Normal ingredients now in pet food are preservatives and artificial additives. Everything your pet should not be consuming may be found in your pet’s food which can lead to pet health problems. It is literally a dog-eat-dog-world so look out for your pet!

Advantage, made by Bayer, is the only topical product that has been safely tested for use on rabbits. According to Dr. Brick, Advantage is a safe topical flea treatment for rabbits that has only a few rare topical reactions however, those reactions were nothing serious. Advantage is “… a lot less hassle than the other stuff,” says Dr. Brick. To administer Advantage to a rabbit, part the hair between the base of the skull and the neck until the skin is clearly visible. Place the pipette on the tip of the skin and squeeze firmly until the contents have emptied onto your pet rabbit’s skin.

Dosage is also very important. Depending on the size of your rabbit, small or dwarf rabbits should be treated with only half of the pre-filled tube and adult rabbits should be treated with the full dose. The House Rabbit society has recommended that rabbits should stay away from other pets that have also received Advantage as treatment for flea infestation because topical creams tend to take 12 hours to fully spread through a pet’s coat.
